Browsers: Firefox is gaining ground

I just checked in a google search for browser stats and came across this website from W3 Schools where they show the month by month stats for browser usage among internet users. http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp It's been a while since I checked for these numbers and I was surprised to find that Firefox is gaining ground on Internet Explorer faster than I originally thought. IE now only has a 58.5% share of the market (IE 5,6&7), while Firefox is at 34.5% as of the end of July 2007. The other stats for Opera, Safari, and Mozilla show they are still around, but all three are less than 2% of the market. I can still remember, not too long ago, that Internet Explorer had 90% of the market. It was then that we just tested our websites in IE and didn't worry too much about the others. We can't do that anymore. Definately test all of your sites in IE and Firefox. It's not really an option anymore. Update 6/17/08 - Forgive my error, but apparently these stats are just for the W3C website and not representative of general browser market share. I came across another site that has the more accurate and up-to-date stats. Still impressive at 17%. http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=0
